Day 1: Camera Skills
- Health & Safety Issues and Darkroom Etiquette.
- Correct Camera Handling.
- Loading Film.
- Exposure Principles.
- Depth of Field.
- Creative use of Shutter speeds.
- Different Lens Type and there purpose.
- Film Types.
- Basic Composition Skills (slide presentation).
- Project 1 set.
Day 2: B & W Developing and Proofing - (Project 1 Due)
- Loading Film Tanks.
- Mixing Chemicals
- Tank Agitation
- Drying Films
- Caring for Films.
- How to read a Negative
- Using an Enlarger to make a Proof Sheet.
- Photographers and Their Images (slide presentation)
- Project 2 set
Day 3: Photographic Enlargements - (Project 2 Due)
- Students will process Film under Mentors Supervision.
- Introduction to Photographic Enlargements.
- How to judge Print Contrast and Exposure.
- Burning and Dodging the Print.
- Class discussions and open critique.
- Masters of Photography (slide presentation) - Project 3 set
Day 4: Photo Finish - (Project 3 Due)
- Students process Films, create Proof Sheets and Photo Enlargements under
Mentors Supervision.
- Print Spotting and Finishing.
- Print Display.
- Class discussions and open critique.
Day 5 - Flying
Solo
Free 4 hours - The darkroom area will be made available to complete assignments.
Mentor will oversee the final work output.
Prerequisites:
This course is designed for beginners but you will need a 35mm Camera.
Objective:
The four-day / 16 hour course will give you the basic skills and confidence
in exposing film to darkroom printing.
