BACKPACKER PROJECT BY SUZANNE KELLY

So, You Want To Know Where Your Tax Dollar Is Going ?

NAME: Colin.

AGE: 37

COUNTRY OF BIRTH: Texas U.S.A.

OCCUPATION: On sickness benefits.

AND BEFORE THAT: Menial jobs.

ARRIVAL DATE: Last Wednesday (24th July).

DEPARTURE DATE: Tonight. (28th July).

WHERE TO NEXT: Back to Canberra to change gear, coming back to Byron next week. I get free travel on the train, but it's a real nuisance that the train goes through Sydney and not directly here.

BEST THING ABOUT BYRON: The climate and the spirit.

WORST THING ABOUT BYRON: The disparity in wealth.

FAVORITE NIGHT SPOT. Fracas, it's the only one I've been to.

BEST PLACE TO EAT: The Bakery. I like the chicken and vegetable pies.

HAVE YOU MET ANY LOCALS: A few, couple of dozen.

WHY DID YOU COME TO BYRON: Medical Reasons. My Doctor said I needed to be in a warmer climate.

HAVE YOU HAD ANY PROBLEMS IN BYRON OR AUSTRALIA: No, but I think I might have had one of my backpacks stolen at a party at Suffolk the other night.

WHAT'S YOUR PASSION: Writing.

IF THERE WAS ONE THING YOU WOULD CHANGE ABOUT BYRON, WHAT WOULD IT BE: They need to create some kind of free community-type accommodation. I didn't really want to question Colin much further.
